the chaingun's recoil effect, while annoying to new players, has little effect on your aim (the shaking is only visual, but it does push your aim upward very slightly) and is easy to ignore with a little practice. i'd still vote chaingun because it costs more than twice as much as a shotgun and is only marginally better without the helmet to back it up (unless you're defending your base against tyrants).

The hardest weapon to use on s1 is a mass driver because you get one shot per second and it only does 41 damage so it takes 5 seconds to kill a dragoon and you can only kill one dretch per second making killing three of them impossible.

As much as I'd like to think so, I don't believe the ckit qualifies as a weapon.

I vote painsaw (or I would if the poll hadn't already closed). It requires you to serve yourself up to the aliens before it let's you so much as damage them. With nothing protecting your head, it's suicide for even most experienced players.

I'm not taking into account the ability to damage the alien base as they are all quite effective against immobile targets in thier own way.

in my opinion its md, depending on map you might not be in an area that is protected by turrets, or covered by teammates while using it.  If you die thats 350 creds down the drain, (2 dretch kills).  The slow refire rate coupled with low ammo means it makes attacking multiple skilled enemies difficult, and if friendly fire is on 1 headshot coupled with bleeders means a lot of creds down the drain.

I prefer to use only rifle/shotgun/painsaw for s1 to conserve creds
