Domination mod
Latest version:
SVN929 version 7
Domination mod was designed to eliminate the "Sudden Death" hack and provide an alternative to foil camping teams. The mod introduces capturable domination points that determine which team has control of the map.
http://risujin.org/tremulous#domination
Changes in version 7:
-- Alien buildables not dominating bug fixed
-- New help screen added (want the
patch
? look for 'modhelp')
-- Added !devmap and !layoutsave commands to make layout editing possible without rcon (
patch
)
-- Updated to TJW's SVN929-2 patch
-- Building the Reactor or Overmind near a domination point is no longer allowed; don't move to DPs!
Changes in version 6:
-- Overlay is easier to read
-- Dominating will allow your team to build and receive freekills faster
-- Larger aliens and better equipped humans capture faster
-- g_markDeconstruct toggle bug fixed
-- Domination points on maps with named areas will also display their letter

Nice screenshot, when you window stuff and drag it off the screen it gets messed up.
Sweet mod, I hope a good server will run it.

Thats why it did that...
There is already one server running Domination (MG), and will be more once we get a backport version up here.

This game mode is great but still needs some tweaking...
currently points are natural to begin with but after capturing once they never be natural again
how about let the capture be done only after naturalizing dom point and cut the time also in half
currently:
N -20s-> A/H
A <20s> H
after:
A <10s> N <10s> H
([N]atural, [A]lien and [H]uman)
this would atleast give bit back for atleast trying the capture. also naturalising would happen if both sides are present

Domination was good, but I prefer the Double Domination in UT2003/2004
Good to see some new things though, I can't wait to test that!

I don't really have a chance to play a domination game yet, but I have ran around in the MG server and tested some of its features. I think there are still quite many potential problems and flaws that need to be looked into.
1. I don't see how human team can claim any domination points at s1, since a decent alien team can dominate any area outside the human base easily. If you take the approach that a team start with a few bp and they must capture domination points to build up decent defense in the main base, then human must be the side at a disadvantage since alien can do well with eggs alone. Any reckless rush of human at s1 only means feeding, and lead to the destruction of the main base easily. The only way to survive seems to be moving the whole base to a domination point, but I guess it isn't how it is supposed to be played.
-- I suggest making the role of the domination point different. Domination points should be creeps/repeaters that provides a set of bp (like 50) when captured. So a team can quickly capture a point close to them and start building a small base there, and use it to further advance and attack other domination points. So a server can leave the bp as 100+ for the main bases and one team would not be eliminated immediately if it fails to capture a point.
2. Camping is still possible in domination if a team captures the point and quickly use the bp in the main base (I don't really know how the extra bp from a domination point works, just guessing). I would suggest making domination a victory condition, which if a team captures all the domination points on a map, a countdown of victory will be started. So that a team has to fight for 1 point at least and excessive camping or infinite egg hunts can be prevented.
-- In this system I proposed, crappy public human team my lose very quickly as they usually don't have the motivation to leave their camp fire. However, I guess it is better than the system right now as the human at least has something to fight for outside. Once human gets a domination point and a front base up, attacking as a human shouldn't be as depressing that you are being dretch spammed to death once you move out a fair distance from the base. Even if the human are cowardly enough to ignore their domination plan altogether, we can quickly advance to the next map and wish that the teams won't be stacked too badly again, right?
3. Animation on capturing or a domination zone is needed, it is very hard to know if one is capturing or not.
Last but not least, I think nodes teleportation would work great in domination mod *hint*
Anyway, these are just my preliminary guess. I can't say for sure until we get our domination server running, though, I hope you could consider these suggestions.

Hi. Needing some helps for configuring.
1.Would you please state the commands to put/remove domination points?
2.After placing the .pk3 and game.qvm files to the right places, the gamename is still 'base' although the fs_game changed to 'domination', and there are no domination points in the default official maps, did i set something wrong?
I don't even know if the server is running the mod XD, please give me some hints.

Use rcon to enter cheats mode:
\rcon password devmap atcs
(or whatever map)
Use a construction kit or a granger to place Domination Points.

You can really only tell if Domination is on or not if you can place domination points in cheats mode. Otherwise it plays like SVN base.
Make sure you have +set fs_game domination on your tremded command line.

Just would like to say we had a REALLY good 1 hour long game on our server with Version 2. Despite all the bugs, it was really very fun.
Other than you lame-o camping aliens, I had a blast.
I'll post my real comments on the tracker.

Just got the server running and had a few games with 10+ players. All I can say is public human team isn't going to make it in this current state. Alien has too many advantages in both capturing and defending and it makes the game end in alien win in less than 5 minutes. Also our players can't live without the balance mod features now. So, back to balance. Will try this again after a few more versions.
I would say if domination can be integrated into balance mod, with every options that help humans turned on. And change the domination game system, that domination points shouldn't be giving essential build points for the main base, but rather small bonus bps for a front base and as a victory condition to solve excessive camping. The mod would be a lot more interesting to try again.

Domination is a good, fun mod, however, every domination server's layout will be different. I suggest you pack layouts for each of the default maps with the mod, or make the domination points my team owns visible to my team through walls or on radar
Aliens can build a 50bps base to defend each domination point that they capture, however, without a repeater, humans can only add on to their default base, I suggest that humans get S1 repeaters as part of this mod,
OR
every domination point controlled by a team gives a certain range of creep/power.
Also, just a visual thing, perhaps the domination points should rotate/move, like the arrows in Flap.

So it does, I still think that the points should rotate or bob up and down. (I had to go into GTK radiant and under the func_ list to remember the word 'bobing' >_>)

A suggestion would be embedding the balance mod s feature (unlagged, new wpn and alien class, etc) into the domination mod. Also think that the time for dominating should be a bit longer

Make the control points player-capturable only?
You can build something there to protect you while you hang around, or build something to keep enemies from snagging it.
But only a player will keep it from automatically "Naturalizing" after 60 seconds of dormancy.
Noooo my bp went poof...

Domination uses the SVN layout system. After you devmap and place the points, you must save your layout:
Code:
\layoutsave dom
By default, only custom layouts will load.

A nice thing that you included is that it gives the descriptive map location instead of just A,B,C,D.
What would be real nice is if it said the map location AND the letter.
That way, we can associate the letters and places easier.

Well... I could do a team overlay type of thing where the location name is displayed with the letter, but more often than not you only have A and B anyway and a long line of text off the side of your screen is seriously annoying.

It does do that, but its the map that does that. Risujin would have to go through every, EVERY, map and name parts of it. I don't think he'll like that idea. If you play on maps like Meep_b2 and Gloom2Beta2 there's names.

I'd like to see Domination clan matches. The game requires more teamwork than you'd see in a pub. Basically the strategy to win is to grab enough DPs for a forward base, build medi/arm/tesla or booster/egg/hives and attack from there.
Most people dont feel that building at the DP (which is hard to accomplish) will get them anything so we get some strange games where Aliens are dominating but they dont build at any DP or, conversely, on Humans players trying to build at the DPs will be abandoned by chainsuits who grab the DP and run back to base without waiting for the builder! That's not the way to win guys!
