Basilisk Guide

The Basilisk Guide*
The Basilisk is difficult to play with and should NOT be used by new players. It is often referred to as "Friend Basi" because of its healing abilities and fighting style. I'm not going to go over the raw data on attack speed and damage.
The Basilisk's Primary Role:
The basilisk's primary roll is healing, at stage one, the aliens rely purely on basilisk's due to there lack of boosters. The Advanced Basilisk has a healing aura as strong as a booster, so the basilisk's healing role is always an important one.
Other notes:
basilisks autograb, you dont need to attack to grab.
Fighting with regular basilisk at stage one
Hang above doorways and wait for lone humans to come through
Only fight lone humans if you are alone, if you grab from behind, they will be unable to shoot you
Fighting with regular basilisk vs stage 2+ humans
Try to avoid contact as you have relatively low health, preform your role as a healer
Helmets make ambush almost impossible, but if you can grab a lone human from behind they are done for
Battlesuits can turn in your grip, so leave these to the larger aliens
Don't attempt flamers. Ever.
Fighting with adv. basilisk vs stage 1 humans
Ambush is a great strategy
Your gas disorients helmetless or battlesuit-less humans
Remember you're role as a portable booster, big aliens will find you helpful
Fighting with adv. basilisk vs stage 2+ humans
Lone battlesuit-less humans are easy targets
Use gas to disorient harder humans so you can run or help big aliens
Healing is very important
There you have it.
Additional tips from Conzul:
** practice wallwalking (even on empty servers) so that you'll know how the camera will mess with you when you try to grab someone from a wall or angle. If you master the use of grabbing from walls, you will become a better fighter.
** If you are forced to engage more than one human, grab the human with the weakest weapon. Then manuever yourself so that he is between yourself and the other humans, acting as a "meatshield". Even if you die, your victim will very frequently fall as well under the weight of friendly fire.
** you can grab from farther away than you can damage, so be aware of this.
** while fighting as a group, do your best to a) grab your prey, and b) move to a wall or out of the way of other aliens. If you are grabbing a battlesuit as an advanced basilisk, keep gassing instead of damaging. This will help other teammates take him out. If you can hold a battlesuit near a wall, go up above their heads. You'll be surprised how rarely they will think to look up.
** unless you can jump ONTO the head of your prey, do not aim your grab above the waistline of the human. Many players are learning that when the basilisk aims for their head, that they can crouch right out of its grab. again, don't aim above the waist unless you are looking down on your prey from a wall or above.
** be the best ninja you can be.
Tips for A_spork (he survived as adv. basi for 5 minutes with entire human team chasing him on nexus6)
Basilisk gas slows humans down, which is helpful for catching ones just ahead of you.

Gas doesn't do damage in gpp, but it does slow and disorient.
But yeah, #1 is sneaky.

You forgot the gas slowing part
Seriously, that's quite important if you're stalking a human and can't quite catch him, gas him to slow him down, and then you're on top of him having lunch.

Something I have noticed that I rarely see basi/teamwork tactics. The one's I have seen are usually alone, gassing from above or out by themselves doing their thing. The tactics described above would seem to logically work. I see more human teamwork than alien teamwork, though I have seen it, usually from the more experienced players who have mastered teamwork. But never basi teamwork. One question, does a larger alien class have to "stay" near the basi to help it.

Not necessarily but it can be a nice symbiotic relationship. The basilisk stays mostly out of trouble, heals the large alien, and holds dancing humans in place. The large alien draws the fire of weak humans to feed the basi with, protects the basi, and kills stuff in highly dangerous areas.

watch your radar, and kill the first human quickly.
Also, try using human #1 as a meat shield.

Some time ago I was playing alongside white wizard (aka: Best/scariest basi player in trem). I was an Adv dragoon, and he was of course an adv basilisk. We fought the entire human team at the front door of H default in Karith. I would distract the human and make it difficult for them to shoot him. He would grab dancing humans and psaws. It worked brilliantly. Humans find it very difficult to both save their teammate and also keep themselves alive.
I think if aliens worked in teams more often they would win more games.
